SEED is an augmented reality artwork which begins life a real Moonflower seed buried in the regolith of the Moon. Initially the seed sprouts a tiny sapling which eventually grows into a sprawling tree. Otherworldly and flickering like Prometheus's fire the growing tree symbolically reignites the spark of life on the lunar surface. Providing a virtual space for Astronauts on the Moon to seeking a space to relax, contemplate and be inspired.
During EMMPOL V analog Moon simulation mission, we symbolically launched the project during an EVA. Demonstrating the concept and testing the technology. The initial prototype of the tree in seedling stage having just burst out. The project will develop ongoing until it can be realised on the Moon Itself.
Feral collaborated with 3D designer Samantha Hayes on this long term project that will see over 20 3D digital artworks tracking the growth of the tree. These will be used to create an animation of the tree which can geolocated on the Moon once the technology has been developed to do so ahead of the Artemis lunar surface missions. SEED will viewed by astronauts through in-helmet applications.
