A Journey Into Space Sound Join artist Aoife van Linden Tol on her sonic journey as Commander of EMMPOL V analog mission to the Moon. Aoife and her five crew members spent one week in complete isolation inside the Moon simulation habitat at the Analog Astronaut Training Centre in Poland. Taking recordings of daily sonic environments as a starting point, Aoife and her crew contemplated how the aural experience affects us psychologically, physically and how this differs from normal life. They explored the creative experience of sound as a stimulator for memory, thought and ideas. What emotions and does the scratching of the regolith, rustles inside the space suit, buzz of the air ventilation system, stamping on the treadmill, hum of computers, clicks and beeps, voice logs, data communication to mission control evoke in Earth bound listeners and creators? Sounds and dialog recorded from within and without the habitat during the mission were uploaded to the Feral Events Soundcloud under the 'A Journey Into Space Sound’ Soundcloud playlist. These sounds are released under a creative commons license and we invite music producers, sound designers, video artists, sound engineers, musicians of all kind to use and create with them. This activity is about sharing the journey in a sensorial way and inviting them to be inspired and create something as a response. A Journey Into Space Sound is part of a wider project, Outer Space Cultural Experiment Laboratory (OSCEL) created by Feral Events. |
